Is there any way to add a dice roller to the site, a la RPOL? |

Speaking as a code monkey, yes. It would depend on where you wanted it. Forum integration might be difficult, but it is hard to say without looking at the system as a whole. If you wanted one as part of the main site, it would be a five minute job, tops. Edit: In hindsight, I should've taken a look at the RPOL site before I started spouting off on how easy it would be... where is this dice thing? (Message edited by Carver on October 31, 2008) |

That's great CD. I trust in my GM skills, but I'm afraid that my english couldn't keep it up :p But we can't let this feeling die, let's play something! Anyone else up for a game? |

I looked into adding a dice roller to the forums several years ago...I really wanted to design it so that people could pick what dice they wanted to roll when they posted, and then once their post was up it would say, for example, "Mr. Justice rolled 2D6: 10". At the time, the Discus programmers quoted me $600. If we modify the forums ourselves, we lose Discus' support, which Hellfire and I are unwilling to do. I suppose building a dice roller elsewhere on the server is an option. If someone wants to do that I would have no problem. I would be the one installing the code so I could make sure everything was kosher. The main things to keep in mind would be transparency and fairness: there should be a public log of who rolled what when, so everyone would see that cheating was impossible. It should probably also have a limit on accesses from a certain IP addresses over a given amount of time, to keep people from spamming it. |

The one on RPOL has a public log. GMs usually have players post their rolls in a private message to keep the IC threads from getting confusing with IC v. OOC info, but the rolls are there for public consumption. There is also a "secret roll" option for times that the GM specifies--i.e. s/he wants to keep certain rolls secret from certain people for certain reasons. Below is a screenshot of the dice roller from RPOL. The reason I ask is that I have been playing a couple of games at RPOL for a while now (~2 years) and taking notes on what keeps them going, and I think neutral accountability because of a system and a die roller are part of the equation. Eventually the next step in the experiment would be to run a game here with a system and use a dice roller to compare notes.

*laughs, but doesn't know why* I get the objection, but I don't read geek speak. I am merely n00b. |

Really, it was just that I've been waiting for years to do something silly with the objection website and Mr. J, because in my mind that's what he does all day (complete with the beeps as each letter pops out of his mouth) ;) Seriously though, I didn't know anybody still used internet explorer. |

IE6 makes web designers sad. It is like Microsoft looked at web standards and asked themselves "how can we mess this up?" |

*face palms* Now I get it. It's my work laptop and I cannot install Firefox because of IT policies. All of my other computers have it, though. We are a Mozilla family! You guys are funny. |

I was wondering if we can use http://invisiblecastle.com/ Just right down your character name and GM can look for every dice roll your character makes. |
